This isn’t a typical losing a child as my son is still alive but I still ‘lost’ my baby.
I was pregnant at 19 years old but had a nasty split from my son’s father. When my parents found out – I made sure it would be too late for an abortion – my mum’s choice was that he was adopted and with the help of the adoption agency it went ahead. It is the worst experience, the most traumatic time of my life. I didn’t know my rights so I believed everything I was told. Post reunion and over 23 years later I found out that my son’s adoption is known as a forced adoption which is illegal but it was too late to do anything about it.
People don’t understand that adoption = loss even though the child survives. I lost my baby, I will never get him baby and I lost my son for a second time when reunion broke down.
